University Life is Indeed Free, but You Must Learn Self-Management

Looking back on my four years at Feng Chia University, I feel that I have experienced a lot and grown significantly. In high school, I often heard teachers and elders say that university life can be happy, free, and relaxed, but this statement is not entirely accurate. University life is indeed free, but it also requires us to learn how to manage ourselves to ensure that we study and grow meaningfully during these four years, so we won't regret it when we graduate.

My university life was full of challenges and opportunities. These experiences not only enriched my student life but also laid a solid foundation for my future career.

Freedom to Choose: Learning What You Want is Most Important

Applied Japanese Credit Program Certificate + Five Project Management Certificates + Feng Chia and Siliconware Industry-Academia Cooperation Course

University is a world different from high school, with more courses, activities, and resources waiting for us to explore. Although everyone enters university with their own department, we actually have the freedom to choose which courses to take, and almost all courses from various departments are open to us.

During my university years, I chose to take 16 credits of Applied Japanese and obtained the Applied Japanese Credit Program Certificate. I also took general education courses in project management and successfully obtained five project management certificates. Additionally, I participated in the industry-academia cooperation course between Feng Chia University and Siliconware Precision Industries Co., Ltd., where we visited the production line of Siliconware and received a course certificate at the end of the semester.

TSMC New Talent Training Center (NTC) Course

Personally Operating Semiconductor Wafer Processing Machines and Witnessing Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) Lenses

The most impressive experience for me was the industry-academia cooperation course between Feng Chia University and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). Although it was held during winter and summer vacations, students interested in the semiconductor industry should not miss this course.

On the day of the TSMC NTC industry-academia cooperation course, participating students took a shuttle bus early in the morning to the TSMC Central Taiwan Science Park Training Center. This training center is TSMC's only training institution, dedicated to training employees and holding industry-academia cooperation courses. Each floor of the training center has different semiconductor wafer processing equipment, which are usually placed in clean rooms and are not accessible, let alone operated by students. However, during the course, we had the opportunity to operate these machines ourselves. The most memorable part was the introduction of the ASML lithography machine, an extremely precise and expensive machine, and we had the chance to climb inside and witness the extreme ultraviolet lenses.

The TSMC industry-academia cooperation course is divided into two main parts: equipment components and machine processes. The machine processes are further divided into photolithography, etching, polishing, and other categories. In just four days, we gained in-depth knowledge of semiconductor processes and received valuable industry and company information from TSMC's professional instructors.

This is Not a Smooth Road, but It Will Be a Meaningful Journey

In summary, my university life was full of challenges and opportunities. These experiences not only enriched my student life but also laid a solid foundation for my future career. I hope that junior students will actively participate in various activities inside and outside the school, continuously learn and grow. This is not a smooth road, but it will be a meaningful journey, bringing infinite opportunities for the future.

Internship

The first half of the year as a rookie intern

2025.08.15 (Fri)19:08 ~ 19:08

I experienced the last semester of the academic club in college, and decided to give myself an experience different from school life, so I chose the industrial internship in the department and entered the "Taichung System Development Department, Marketing Information Department, Cathay Life Insurance". Perhaps because of a bit of luck, I happened to meet Cathay Pacific who was updating the old system, so I directly joined the company's project development to create a greenhouse gas inventory information disclosure platform, log in and audit the greenhouse gas emissions of the entire company and make reports. Thinking that other Cathay Pacific people will use the system I made, every time I make a part, I will feel more fulfilled, and I will fully experience the feeling of a rookie working, not just an intern who goes to help. Cathay Pacific’s training plan for new recruits is really perfect. In addition to a set of teaching gitbooks for self-learning, there is also a step-by-step basic teaching by mentors, and then independent implementation of simple projects. Finally, the mentor’s code review makes us more clear when writing programs. How to improve its performance and legibility. Although there are many interns, there will be some people who are quick learners waiting for those who are a little slower, but this part will happen more or less, so I used this time to study the bottom part of their project structure and understand the whole The architecture of the system will also be of great help to me in making projects later on. For me, the report is probably what I learned the most here! After the project started, every two weeks, I had to report what I had completed, what functions I had done, why I did it, and how I could optimize it. In addition to training me to be able to present my results without nervousness to a group of unfamiliar people on stage, it also increased my ability to fully describe my ideas for the projects I produced. This part is a very important ability whether you will continue to study in graduate school or enter the workplace in the future.
